«Insecta: relatos con lupa», surge del proyecto de creación-investigación desarrollado junto a Danilo Espinoza, y toma como punto de partida nuestras investigaciones recientes en torno a la traducción de fotografías de insectos a medios manuales. El proyecto buscaba, por un lado, poner atención en lo ordinario e imperceptible y, por otro, sensibilizar sobre las actuales condiciones de riesgo de nuestros ecosistemas, donde aquello invisible tiene un lugar importante y cumple un rol fundamental.
Con «Insecta: relatos con lupa», buscamos volcar la mirada sobre aquellos organismos cuyas vidas –y muertes– en general pasan desapercibidas ante nuestros ojos. Poner la atención en lo pequeño e insignificante guarda relación, tanto con la capacidad de ver aquello que usualmente no es visto, notado o considerado, como con atender a ciertos asuntos que han sido deliberadamente invisibilizados. Esta búsqueda por poner más atención en lo común de nuestras vidas, en su observación asombrada y minuciosa, y en el cuestionamiento de aquello que se da por sentado, toma como referencia lo infraordinario, término acuñado por el escritor francés Georges Perec para referirse, interrogar y nombrar todos aquellos asuntos cotidianos e insignificantes.
En la muestra se presentaron tres series de obras, dos individuales y una colaborativa. En mi caso, bordados realizados a partir de mi propia colección de insectos, recolectados a lo largo de los años. En su mayoría los he encontrado en mi camino, o me los han regalado personas cercanas. A diferencia de proyectos y obras anteriores, esta vez he realizado los bordados a escala real (1:1), con el desafío de representar los detalles de estos pequeños modelos mediante un formato miniatura.
Sumado a estos bordados de insectos –y un relato posible de sus encuentros–, junto a Danilo Espinoza, y la colaboración de Fernanda Aránguiz M., realizamos una obra de autoría compartida, un libro de artista que recoge parte de este proceso.

“Insecta: stories with a magnifying glass” arises from the creation-research project developed together with Danilo Espinoza, and takes as its starting point our recent research on the translation of insect photographs to manual media. The project sought, on the one hand, to pay attention to the ordinary and imperceptible and, on the other, to raise awareness about the current risk conditions of our ecosystems, where the invisible has an important place and plays a fundamental role.
With “Insecta: stories with a magnifying glass”, we seek to turn our gaze on those organisms whose lives –and deaths– generally go unnoticed before our eyes. Paying attention to the small and insignificant is related both to the ability to see what is usually not seen, noticed or considered, as well as to attend to certain matters that have been deliberately made invisible. This quest to pay more attention to the commonplace of our lives, to its amazed and meticulous observation, and to the questioning of what is taken for granted, takes as a reference the infraordinary, a term coined by the French writer Georges Perec to refer to, interrogate and name all those everyday and insignificant matters.
Three series of works were presented in the exhibition, two individual and one collaborative. In my case, embroideries made from my own collection of insects, collected over the years. Most of them I have found on my way, or they have been given to me by people close to me. Unlike previous projects and works, this time I have made the embroideries on a real scale (1:1), with the challenge of representing the details of these small models through a miniature format.
In addition to these insect embroideries –and a possible account of their encounters–, together with Danilo Espinoza, and the collaboration of Fernanda Aránguiz M., we made a work of shared authorship, an artist’s book that collects part of this process.
