La participación de Mónica Bengoa en ARCO 2014, cuenta con el apoyo del Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes de Chile, a través del Fondo Nacional de Desarrollo Cultural y las Artes.
Este 19 de febrero próximo se inaugura la versión 2014 de ARCO, la Feria de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid, donde Galería Isabel Aninat (única galería chilena presente en la feria) participará con un proyecto individual de la artista visual Mónica Bengoa.
La instalación, titulada “Still life / Style leaf”, y que ha sido realizada especialmente para este evento, consiste en cuatro paños negros de 184 x 290 cm –y 6.353 letras– de fieltro calado a mano. En una línea similar a sus trabajos de los últimos años en cuanto al uso de este material, esta obra en cambio aborda más directamente el interés de la artista por el uso del texto en sus obras. En este caso, utiliza el relato homónimo, del escritor francés Georges Perec, contenido en su libro “Lo infraordinario”. En él, Perec describe detalladamente su escritorio, la mesa sobre la cual escribe, y cada uno de los elementos que sobre ella se disponen. La imagen vívida de ese relato se constituye en una nueva imagen material, de las páginas arrugadas del mismo libro, desde la cual se desprenden –como una metáfora concreta– cada una de las letras caladas, apilándose en el suelo, bajo cada página de fieltro.

Mónica Bengoa’s participation in ARCO 2014, has the support of the National Council of Culture and Arts of Chile, through the National Endowment for the Arts and Cultural Development.
The 2014 version of ARCO, the Madrid Contemporary Art Fair, opens on February 19th, where Galería Isabel Aninat (the only Chilean gallery present at the fair) will participate with an individual project by visual artist Mónica Bengoa.
The installation, entitled “Still life / Style leaf”, and which has been made especially for this event, consists of four black cloths measuring 184 x 290 cm (6 x 9,5 ft each) –and 6,353 letters– of natural wool felt cut out by hand. In a similar vein to her work of recent years in terms of the use of this material, this work, on the other hand, deals more directly with the artist’s interest in the use of text in her work. In this case, she uses the homonymous story by the French writer Georges Perec, contained in his book “The infraordinary”. In it, Perec describes in detail his desk, the table on which he writes, and each of the elements arranged on it. The vivid image of this story becomes a new material image, of the crumpled pages of the same book, from which –as a concrete metaphor– each of the openwork letters are detached, piling up on the floor, under each felt page.
