Plantæ es un proyecto bipersonal, realizado junto a Danilo Espinoza, que se sumerge en un territorio especulativo y experimental desde una perspectiva intercultural, a partir de nuestras experiencias personales con el reino vegetal. Desde creencias populares y saberes ancestrales sobre las plantas silvestres y domésticas, abordamos la distancia entre conocimiento y creencia, entre lo aparentemente objetivo y lo subjetivo.
Al igual que Marder, cuya investigación se desencadenó luego de escuchar el crujir de los árboles bajo el frío durante sus caminatas diarias, con Plantæ compartimos experiencias personales que nos conectan con el mundo vegetal. Estas vivencias, entrelazadas con nuestro interés por los aspectos más profundos de la existencia y por la naturaleza como una cuestión urgente, nos han llevado a reconocer que las plantas representan y encarnan un universo mucho más complejo de lo que aparentan. Desde este punto de vista, y a partir del trabajo conjunto realizado en proyectos anteriores, creemos que tomar conciencia de estas alteridades es esencial para alcanzar un equilibrio y una coexistencia armoniosa entre todas las formas de vida en nuestro planeta.
En mi caso, recurro a la práctica constante de un caminar atento –recorriendo tanto un espacio de bosque nativo que me es familiar, como el trayecto cotidiano entre mi casa y la universidad–. Así, registro pequeñas plantas que pasan comúnmente inadvertidas; tanto aquellas que se esconden bajo imponentes árboles, como las que crecen a la orilla de las calles en la ciudad, concentran saberes fundamentales que contribuyen al equilibrio de los ecosistemas, desde su profunda fragilidad.
Para Danilo Espinoza, su sensibilidad hacia las plantas domésticas se agudizó durante un período familiarmente muy acontecido, donde muchas de las plantas de su casa se marchitaron. Tomando como punto de partida esta experiencia personal vinculada a la creencia en el mal de ojo y su posible influencia en las plantas, explora, a través de obras gráficas elaboradas con humo y calor sobre papel, cómo estas concepciones populares moldean nuestra percepción del entorno natural.
Este conjunto de obras han sido producidas siguiendo una metodología experimental en torno al dibujo, la fotografía, el grabado y sus desplazamientos. Como medios de exploración disciplinar, son piezas de papel que permiten expandir el uso de este material más allá de su cualidad de soporte, utilizando el registro fotográfico como modelo y forma de representación de esas dimensiones y sensibilidades de las plantas, que están comenzando a ser estudiadas desde otras profundidades y que parecen resonar con ideas que han sido ampliamente consideradas en otras culturas, en diferentes momentos y a través de diversas visiones del mundo.

Plantæ is a two-person project, carried out together with Danilo Espinoza, which dives into a speculative and experimental territory from an intercultural perspective, based on our personal experiences with the plant kingdom. From popular beliefs and ancestral knowledge about wild and domestic plants, we address the distance between knowledge and belief, between the apparently objective and the subjective.
Like Marder, whose research was triggered by listening to the rustling of trees in the cold during his daily walks, in Plantæ we share personal experiences that connect us to the plant world. These experiences, intertwined with our interest in the deeper aspects of existence and in nature as a matter of urgency, have led us to recognize that plants represent and embody a much more complex universe than they appear to be. From this point of view, and based on our work together in previous projects, we believe that awareness of these othernesses is essential to achieve a balance and harmonious coexistence between all forms of life on our planet.
In my case, I resort to the constant practice of attentive walking -–both through a familiar area of native forest and on the daily commute between my home and the university–. In this way, I register small plants that commonly go unnoticed; both those that hide under imposing trees and those that grow at the edge of the streets in the city, concentrate fundamental knowledge that contribute to the balance of ecosystems, from their profound fragility.
For Danilo Espinoza, his sensitivity to houseplants was heightened during a very eventful period for his family, when many of the plants in his house withered. Taking as a starting point this personal experience linked to the belief in the evil eye and its possible influence on plants, he explores, through graphic works made with smoke and heat on paper, how these popular conceptions shape our perception of the natural environment.
This group of works has been produced following an experimental methodology based on drawing, photography, engraving and their displacements. As a means of disciplinary exploration, they are paper pieces that allow us to expand the use of this material beyond its quality as a support, using the photographic record as a model and form of representation of those dimensions and sensibilities of plants, which are beginning to be studied from other depths and which seem to resonate with ideas that have been widely considered in other cultures, at different times and through different worldviews.
