“Plantæ. Prácticas para no olvidar”

Breves apuntes botánicos es el resultado de «Plantæ», proyecto colaborativo realizado junto a Danilo Espinoza desde mediados del año 2023 hasta inicios del 2024. Su objetivo fue explorar y reflexionar sobre diversos temas relacionados con la naturaleza, sumergiéndonos en un territorio especulativo y experimental, basado en nuestras experiencias personales con el reino vegetal.
En mi caso, recurro a la práctica constante de un caminar atento –recorriendo tanto un espacio de bosque nativo que me es familiar, como el trayecto cotidiano entre mi casa y la universidad–. Así, registro pequeñas plantas que pasan comúnmente inadvertidas; tanto aquellas que se esconden bajo imponentes árboles, como las que crecen a la orilla de las calles en la ciudad, las que concentran saberes fundamentales que contribuyen al equilibrio de los ecosistemas, desde su profunda fragilidad. Este encuentro con la complejidad de las plantas, permite reconocer su rol fundamental para lograr un equilibrio y una coexistencia armoniosa entre todas las formas de vida en nuestro planeta.
Para enfrentar este proyecto, he decidido recurrir al dibujo –una disciplina que usualmente también pasa desapercibida en mis procesos de obra– como una forma de acercarme a una forma particular de ver, de prestar atención a los detalles, al tiempo que permite entender la estructura que subyace bajo aquello que observo. Sumado a esto, el soporte de papel alberga también pequeñas intervenciones textiles, propias de lo que he venido investigando a lo largo de los años.

Brief botanical notes is the result of «Plantæ», a collaborative project carried out with Danilo Espinoza from mid-2023 to early 2024. Its aim was to explore and reflect on various themes related to nature, immersing ourselves in a speculative and experimental territory, based on our personal experiences with the plant kingdom.
In my case, I resort to the constant practice of attentive walking –both through a familiar area of native forest, as well as the daily commute between my home and the university–. In this way, I register small plants that commonly go unnoticed; both those that hide under imposing trees, and those that grow at the edge of the streets in the city, which concentrate fundamental knowledge that contribute to the balance of ecosystems, from their profound fragility. This encounter with the complexity of plants allows us to recognize their fundamental role in achieving a balance and harmonious coexistence between all forms of life on our planet.
To tackle this project, I have decided to turn to drawing –a discipline that usually goes unnoticed in my work processes– as a way of approaching a particular way of seeing, of paying attention to details, while at the same time allowing me to understand the structure that underlies what I observe. In addition to this, the paper support also houses small textile interventions, typical of what I have been investigating over the years.
