Instalación de cuatro murales de 28.000 flores naturales de cardos teñidos
4,5 x 6,5 x 6 m

52 Bienal de Venecia
Palazzo Zenobio, Venecia, Italia

Installation of four murals made of over 28.000 natural dyed thistles

4,5 x 6,5 x 5,85 m (15 x 21 x 19 ft)

52 Bienal de Venecia
Palazzo Zenobio, Venecia, Italia

The some aspects of color in general and red and black in particular project –whose title makes reference to the last text written by Donald Judd (1993)– was selected to represent Chile at the 52nd Venice Biennial in 2007. It was an installation consisting of four murals of natural dyed thistles, which completely covered the 137.5 m2 (1,480 sq ft) of the walls of a room of the Palazzo Zenobio. In each one of the murals, close-up images of insects were displayed; in this sense, some aspects of color in general and red and black in particular settles like a deepening of my investigation around photography, precisely around the specificity of macro photography –so characteristic of the photographic images of insects–, that in this case is extended to monumental scale. In contrast to this great scale and to a production system characterized by the abundance and the exacerbation of textures and color, I made a choice for the use of color based on the chromatic restriction to a monochromatic scale, where black and red are opposed.
