Territorios Alternos

22 agosto – 29 septiembre 2017

Alternative Territories

August 22nd – September 29 th, 2017

A second stage of “Diálogos” began to take shape during 2016. This time it was intended that in addition to the pairs of artists and social scientists, it would be possible to incorporate indigenous communities in the conception of the project. The idea was that the pairs would establish themselves in certain territories for a period of time and begin to work together with representatives of indigenous peoples on certain themes. From this joint reflection, knowledge emerged that was translated, once again, into a series of works of art. This is how the project Alternative Territories was born.

The aim of Alternative Territories was to investigate and create with a focus on dialogue and intercultural recognition, based on a collaborative construction, in which subjects who belong to different disciplinary worlds –Social Sciences and Art– and those who have different worldviews, Native Peoples, generate new perspectives that allow them to investigate languages, forms and perspectives. Between 22nd August and 29th September, the exhibition Alternative Territories was be open to the public in the Art Gallery of the UC Extension Centre. Eight works, plus two micro-documentaries that deal with the research process of two of the projects included in the show, exhibit different ways of approaching the dimension of intercultural dialogue: exploring the material forms and visual languages in which art can address this issue. Alternative Territories thus emerges as an attempt to approach the understanding and the disciplinary and intercultural dialogue.
