Einige Beobachtungen über Insekten: Langhornbiene (Eucera longicornis) or Some considerations on insects: Long-horned Bee (Eucera longicornis) is the departure point of the Fondart project Felt as a support for a new optical exercise. The purpose was to create a series of murals from layers of hand-pierced wool felt, using photographic book images as it’s thematic excuse. In this case, the specific challenge was reproducing the photography of an open book (an image of an encyclopedia on insects), whose first and last plane appeared completely out of focus, foreshortened due to the angle in which the photography was taken. Thereby the ten layers of felt –organized in a gray scale going from white on the surface to black at the bottom–, reproduced the image of two open pages: on the left, presenting a descriptive text on the insect (in German), and on the right, a series of photographs of the same insect. In this way, the letters and words in a foreign language only served the purpose of evidencing the lack of clearness of the text, a blurriness reproduced from formless shapeless pieces of gray felt.
