Between 1992 and 1996, then interested in relating terrestrial with bodily geography, I made a series of works consisting in the photographic registry of different “geographic accidents” of my own body. Thus, I photographed all of my scars, moles and folds in close-up framings, amplifying the textures and reliefs of those topographies. Later on it become necessary to extend the surface, so I added relatives and close friends to that registry, as extensions of my own skin.

Human Resources: Abysses was a project that allowed me not only to add a new “geographic accident” to this kind of “land” registry I had been making, but also to incorporate subjects as insignificant as a belly button; not the one of perfect abdomens, but those belonging to every other person, with scars, stretch marks whitenesses of pregnancy, overweight: not necessarily beautiful, but known and real.
